Practice Yoga At Your Desk
Yoga is known to lower stress and keep your body toned. Unfortunately, you may be too busy to take Yoga classes. That’s no excuse because you can do yoga moves at the office without changing into exercise clothes. Just a few minutes of office Yoga a couple of times a day can make standing up or sitting down at your desk much more pleasant.
You must begin by sitting straight and pressing your back against the chair. You will need to keep your feet flat to the floor, so it is probably helpful to take off your high heels. Raise your heels while pushing your toes toward the floor at the same time. The reverse the process, and push your heels toward the floor while you lift your toes. Create a pattern alternating these movements. The muscles of your lower leg will stretch and relax. You might experience a little resistance at first, but through repetition of these movements you will begin to feel your legs relax. You can do this while talking to a client on the phone without missing a word.
Breathe deeply and lift your arms above your head. Allow your right hand to gently hold your left wrist. Exhale slowly as you bend to the right. Take in another deep breath and sit straight. Then repeat with the opposite hand and stretch.
Push your chair away from your desk. With your back against the chair, slowly fold forward lowering your upper body, reaching your hands to the floor. Stretch and see if you can lay your palms flat on the floor. Remain in that position and count to ten, then slowly resume your sitting position.
Sit straight in your chair with your back against the chair back. Bring your chin toward your chest, moving very slowly. Move your head in a circular motion toward the right, center then toward the left. Keep your shoulder still and avoid tightening them as your neck moves.
Practice a half cat stretch. Your feet should be flat against the floor. Lay your hands on your knees. Breathe in and slowly arch your back until you can look at the ceiling. Then you exhale and round the spine downward so your head drops to the chest. Give yourself a break of a few seconds and start again.
In five minutes, you can do a few desk yoga moves that relax your body and energize your sense of well-being. You can repeat this routine several times each day.
